Tailored Scatter Cushions - Saturday, 4 October 2008

Either use the supplied materials or bring your own fabric to make a decorative scatter cushion:
- Different fillings and shapes of pad
- Making bias strips and piping
- Inserting a zip in a piped seam
- Applying flanged cord demonstration
Make a piped cushion with a zipped opening to take home.

Covered Wood Pelmets - Tuesday, 14 October 2008

A pelmet can turn a window treatment into something quite special, and can be useful on problem windows and to disguise curtain tracks. Topics covered during the day:
- Designing shaped pelmets
- Cutting plywood and making hinged returns
- Covering wood with interlining or wadding, and the different results achieved
- Applying piping
- Applying cover to pelmet, and lining
- Tips on hanging
You will make a sample, covered wooden pelmet to take home, along with handouts.

Intermediate Curtain Making - Tuesday, 28 October 2008

Learn more advanced techniques of curtain making to add to your basic skills:
- Different types of interlining and how to apply them
- Hand made headings with buckram - triple pleats and goblets
- Finishing touches for hand made headings
You will make a sample lined and interlined curtain with a hand sewn heading to take away, along with handouts.

Padded Headboards - Saturday 9 November 2008

Learn how to make padded headboards, with piping and ruche detail. You may either make a headboard for a single bed, or a quarter size sample, including
- Making a new board or re-using an existing one
- Piping
- Gathering
- Using a staple gun.

Tailored Loose Covers - Friday & Saturday, 28 & 29 November 2008 - FULLY BOOKED

Making loose covers can be a daunting prospect. Come and learn, including the following topics:
- Designing a cover
- Measuring up and fabric requirements
- Cutting and pin-fitting
- Making and applying piping
- Inserting zips and other closures
- Skirts and bottom edges.
Then make a sample cover on half a chair, before embarking on the real thing!

Roman Blinds - Tuesday 17 February 2009

Blinds add a new dimension to your window furnishings and Roman blinds can be created in a range of different styles. The following will be covered:
Measuring and estimating fabric requirements
Headrail systems
Rings, rods, tapes, weight bars
Designing and creating shaped bottom edges
Students will make a sample, lined, Roman blind using some of the techniques learned.

Hobbled Blinds - Tuesday 24 February 2009

Instead of being completely flat when down, Hobbled blinds have folds, giving more interest to the finished blind.
-Calculate folds
-Making up a Hobbled blind
-Demonstration of Stitched Tuck blinds

Beginners Curtain Making - Tuesday 10 March 2009

For those with little or no experience of curtain making, as well as those who want to improve on their skills and learn the 'proper' techniques. The following topics are covered:
- Tracks and poles
- Taped curtain headings
- Measuring and estimating fabric requirements
- Locked in linings and mitred corners
Students will make a sample, lined curtain with hand finished hem and sides, and machined heading tape to take away along with handouts.

Bolster Cushions - Saturday 9 May 2009

Bolster cushions on bed or sofa add a finishing touch.
-Measuring and calculating fabric requirements
-Inserting zips
-Piping and frills
-Different ways to finish the ends of the bolster
You will make a bolster to take home with a feather pad - bring your own fabric if you wish.

Please note that places are limited. In the event of a course being fully booked, your payment will be returned and your name added to a waiting list.

A refund will be made if notice of cancellation is given in writing up to 14 days before the start of the course. No refunds can be given after this time.

If we have to cancel a course, this will result in a full refund of course fees.
